*EIGHTEEN*

It was a Journey kind of afternoon. Nathan had been listening to the iconic band’s tunes off-and-on for the last couple of hours. Even their ‘harder’ songs had a pleasant sound to them and their music always made for easy listening on the ears. The unique and melodic voice of Steve Perry made for the kind of elevator music he could ride up and down to all day long.

While the Beatles safely held the number one spot, Journey was among the top ten when it came to his favorite bands. Sharing that special list with other greats such as The Eagles, Aerosmith, and the Rolling Stones. Needless to say, that particular time period was not chock-full of things to do to keep him entertained or busy. So, he passed a lot of his time just listening to music. Nothing new there.

He had also been binge-watching the show Smallville. Seeing his old Superman shirt had made him start thinking of the show and being that there were ten whole seasons, he figured it would eat up some time. Good show, though a bit heavy on the Lana drama and Kryptonite poisoning.

He had even been wearing the shirt some of late, though only in the cave. He was fearful that its bright colors might attract some animals looking to either eat or mate with him. Neither prospect was very appealing. As much as he liked the opening music from the show, after a few dozen episodes, he could really use getting its theme out of his head. The extended Journey concert going on in his ear helped with that.

Even though he spent more time in the caves than out, (it was just safer there), on that day he was out-and-about again. The weather had held out nicely for the past several days. The sky was blue and clear, and the air crisp. On that particular afternoon he was in the company of Chewy. He was taller than most in the clan, though he did not have the same Vin Diesel muscle-mass going on that Fester did. He was still a pretty big fellow and probably the hairiest of the tribe to boot, so the name fit him well.

Nathan was walking a pace or two behind the seasoned scout and was still listening to Journey songs through the earpiece. The track, “Stone in Love” was softly reverberating off his eardrum and he bobbed his head up and down along to its beat. Chewy happened to glance back his way, and his expression was one of wonder at what their strange visitor was doing. Nathan only smiled and winked back. Holding out both hands at chest level as if they were cocked pistols and then dropped his thumbs as if firing them. As if to say, “you the man.”

“To ja lo.” He said and abruptly stopped.

“What’s up, Chewy?” Nathan asked, looking around. “You smell something?”

“Ta ki not sat.” He stated with an urgent voice.

“Yeah, if you say so.” Nathan said, uncertain how to even respond.
